The pharmacology of fertility

Fertility treatment is a rapidly growing area of healthcare, yet many pharmacists find themselves in the dark when it comes to the medicines that drive it. This session will unpack the hormones and therapies behind fertility care, from how they work to key counselling points, safety considerations, and the pharmacist’s role in supporting patients on their journey. You’ll walk away with clarity and confidence to navigate an area that is only becoming more relevant in practice.

This presentation will address the following learning objectives:

  • Explain the main hormones that control fertility
  • Describe common fertility medications including how they work, when they are used, and key counselling points for patients.
  • Describe the pharmacist’s role in fertility treatment
  • Identify side effects and risks of fertility medications and how to manage them safely.
